The Department of Energy (DOE) has issued its FY 2012 Phase I (Release 3) Funding Opportunity Announcement (DE-FOA-0000715) for the Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) and Small Business Technology Transfer (STTR) Programs. Qualified small businesses with strong research capabilities in science or engineering in any of the research areas sought in the announcement are encouraged to apply.

Important Deadlines
The deadline for receipt of Pre-Applications (required) is May 1, 2012, 11:59 pm EST. Grant applications to either program must be submitted by July 3, 2012, 11:59 p.m. EST. Grant applications will only be accepted from those who have received a letter encouraging submission of a full application based upon evaluation of their pre-application.
Submitting your Pre-Application
Please email your pre-application to the DOE SBIR/STTR Programs Office at sbir-sttr@science.doe.gov. Please include “Pre-Application for Phase I Release 3” in the email subject line. A pre-application template is available at http://science.energy.gov/sbir/funding-opportunities/application-resources/ .
Submitting your Application
Applications will only be accepted electronically through www.grants.gov. The application package can be downloaded from Grants.gov: https://apply07.grants.gov/apply/UpdateOffer?id=113590 Click on “Download Application Package” at the bottom of the page. All Phase I applications must be submitted through Grants.gov web portal to be considered for award.

- Obtain a Dun and Bradstreet Data Universal Numbering Systems (DUNS) number.
- Register with the Central Contractor Registration (CCR) via the credential provider
