Status Update on Federal SBIR/STTR Programs

As you are aware, the enabling SBIR/STTR Legislation was due for Reauthorization in September ’25 and hhttps://tinyurl.com/47vcusk7as now lapsed with the House’s lengthy absence.  Our colleagues at the National SBDC have offered an avenue for you to reach out to your representatives to let them know how impactful this programmatic lapse is, for your company.

Additionally, please note the following status of 2 major federal SBIR/STTR-offering Agencies:

On November 17, 2025, the Dept. of Health & Human Services (HHS), NIH posted Notice Number: NOT-OD-26-006 Notice of Early Expiration of NIH Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) and Small Business Technology Transfer (STTR) Notices of Funding Opportunity and Guidance for Existing Recipients.

This notice closes ALL 23, currently open, SBIR/STTR opportunities offered through the NIH, its Institutes & Centers.

Additionally, the National Science Foundation’s (NSF) last proposal submission deadline was Nov. 5, 2025.  NSF has not issued or extended their SBIR/STTR Funding Opportunity for the comming year.  Please reach out to IPart if you are seeking to prepare an submit and NSF Project Pitch (PP) for initial vetting by the NSF.  IPart can work with you on the refinement of your PP, PRIOR to submitting it – ensuring you are putting your best foot forward.
