The $2.5 Billion in R&D funding available for innovative technologies via the Federal Government’s Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) Program. Learn about:

  • Different levels of funding available
  • Participating federal agencies
  • Who is eligible to win an award
  • Sub-contracting options
  • Where to search for solicitations

Topic #2: Commercialization Planning – Why the “C” word is so important

One of the quickest ways to fail in business is to attempt to do everything yourself.  We must accept that we are not experts in everything.  We must also accept that there are only so many hours in the day to attempt to become experts.  Teamwork is therefore the key.  Seeking both technical expertise and business partners add significant credibility to a proposal.   Finding such partners is no easy task.

The goal of the session is to learn about the many available tools available to identify potential partners and how to communicate with them.

Topic #3: Ingredients of a Phase 1 Proposal

The goal of a phase 1 SBIR and STTR is to conduct a feasibility  / proof of concept study.  While this is the end product, there are many parts to a Phase 1 proposal document and each of them is important to get right.  Attend this session to learn about the key general segments of a Phase 1 proposal and tips for inclusion to make your proposal standout!

Topic #4: Why Research and Business Partners are Important to SBIR and Business Success

Topic #5University Researchers and STTR – An effective funding tool

With traditional academic research funding mechanisms becoming more competitive, university based researchers are looking toward the STTR (Small Business Technology Transfer) funding program as an alternative.  While the majority of the research can be done within the university setting, a small business must be the awardee.

The goals of the session are to outline how an academic can begin to bridge the academic to business transition using the STTR funding mechanism and help to move a technology in the lab through the small business into the market place.

Topic #6: Life is a Pitch – Elements of effective pitch presentations

Every day, you have the opportunity to pitch your business and technology development efforts dozens of times to those around you.  There will also come a time that you will need to do a formal pitch to investors, partners or customers.  No matter if the pitch is informal or formal, it needs to contain key information.  The ultimate objective of a pitch is to garner the interest of the listener and then want to know more.

The goals of this session are to outline the key components of a pitch for you to use no matter who the audience is.
